At the end of the day, it’s all business. So if you’re not a born businessperson, find someone who is.
Creative people are at a massive advantage for cutting through the noise, because there are a lot of people out there saying “buy my product” instead of using good creative ideas to add value to their community. What can artists and creative people do to make a successful business in their field? Give up part of your business to a marketer who is pushing too hard to sell shit. Let them promote your art and good content and help you sell.
I have so many friends with an over-indexing skill set for generating creative ideas and great art and a lot of them are too romantic about those creative ideas to have marketing skills or weren’t born with them. There are very few people who were blessed to have both and are able to do both. I tell all of my friends you need to find a business partner, there are so many people marketing shit, go find one of those people and let them market your great creative ideas.. Offer them 10-50% of your revenue if that is what is going to take to persuade them to become your business partner, because at the end of the day if you are trying to make it a living it’s a business; if you don’t know how to run a business and you don’t know what to do or what your doing often times it doesn’t work out.
